Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program

Grand Rounds are held from 8 - 9 a.m. every Wednesday in the Amphitheatre at 3700 Washington Avenue, unless otherwise indicated. We also host Trauma Rounds, Perinatal Rounds, Tumor Boards, and Performance Improvement CME. Please contact each department for their schedule.

The link to Distance Education will enable you to view past St. Vincent Grand Rounds presentations from the comfort of your home or office. Completing a post-evaluation (when available) will provide you with a certificate of completion for reporting your CME hours.

We designate each of these educational activities for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM. You should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of participation in the activities. Programs not sponsored by St. Mary’s Medical Center may not be eligible for credit.

AAPA accepts Category 1 credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA Category 1 CME credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.

St. Vincent Medical Center is accredited by the Indiana State Medical Association to provide Continuing Medical Education for physicians.

Career Shadowing

Career Shadowing -Helping You Decide on a Career Path

We encourage Career Shadowing for students in the clinical phase of their training. We assist those trying to make a decision on a career path in an effort to promote all clinical and non-clinical healthcare careers. In doing so, we comply with federal rules and regulations including HIPAA regarding patient confidentiality. New policies and procedures are in place to assist both you and your sponsors through the career shadowing process. You must make your own arrangements with the sponsor you wish to shadow before notifying the contact from that area.

Getting Started

  • You will notify the appropriate contact of your desire to participate in a career shadowing experience at St. Vincent. The contact will direct you to required information and necessary forms.
  • Completed forms must be returned to the contact, who will document completion of the process on the Career Shadowing Checklist. You must communicate the name of your sponsor to the contact at that time.
  • Your Sponsor is responsible for communicating the purpose of the your observation to each and every patient who is part of the Career Shadowing experience and will need to have verbal consent from the patient prior to you observing the interaction. The patient is given an opportunity to decline participation in the career shadowing experience. This meets not only personal considerations but also HIPAA requirements.
  • You must provide a copy your current vaccination records and TB test results. All paperwork must be submitted and approved before your first shadowing experience. Once approved, you can make arrangements to visit Security to obtain a name badge and parking pass.

Please review the Career Shadowing Policy before completing the career shadowing packet and contact your sponsor with any questions.
