Rebekah Lynne Shinabarger Memorial Scholarship

The family of Rebekah Lynne Shinabarger desires to bless a student who is committed to excellent nursing care and also passionately pursues Christ, allowing faith to impact all areas of his or her life.

Who was Rebekah?

Rebekah was a vivacious, tender-hearted ICU nurse with an infectious smile and a loving, servant heart. She was an active 25-year-old, who enjoyed working, running mini-marathons, cooking delightful concoctions, playing her violin, voraciously reading, studying to finish her nurse practitioner degree, and blessing those around her through words and actions. Unexpectedly, illness struck. Within five weeks, Rebekah’s health rapidly deteriorated until, after being flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she died Christmas morning 2014 of multiple organ failure.

Where is the hope?

For Rebekah and her family, that Christmas Day meant one of their greatest hopes was realized. This hope was Rebekah’s ability to rejoice in heaven with her Savior, free from pain and sin. Rebekah had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She understood the proper response to the underserved forgiveness found at the cross was a life of gratitude, obedience, and worship of her Savior. Daily, her Christ-centered faith manifested itself through relentless, joyful love and service of others. Although she is still dearly missed, it is our prayer that this scholarship will be a blessing to others who share her vision and passion!
